The Sanctuary Lodge
Where ecological restoration and human restoration meet.
At the base of the Wildlife Spine — the ecological heart of the Sanctuary landscape — the Lodge will serve as the central gathering place where all streams of activity converge. It is where people come to learn, to restore, to connect with each other and with the land. Part learning centre, part healing space, part community hearth, the Sanctuary Lodge embodies the belief that ecological restoration and human restoration are not separate pursuits — they are one practice.
The Purpose of the Lodge
A multifunctional gathering space designed to support the full spectrum of the Sanctuary's mission — from ecological education to community wellbeing.
Community Gatherings
A welcoming space for neighbours, partners, and stewards to meet, share, and strengthen the bonds that make conservation work endure.
Restoration Workshops
Hands-on training in ecological restoration — from native seed propagation to wetland rebuilding — grounded in practical, place-based knowledge.
Ecological Education
Programs that help people understand the living systems around them — soil biology, watershed function, plant–pollinator relationships, and more.
Nature Connection
Experiences designed to deepen the relationship between people and the natural world — forest bathing, birding walks, and seasonal celebrations.
Wellness & Healing
Practices that recognize the link between ecological health and human health — sound therapy, breathwork, meditation, and contemplative time in nature.
Growing Life Year-Round
A small flower and medicinal herb greenhouse where plants are grown for pollinator habitat, restoration plantings, and herbal learning. The Greenhouse Conservatory connects the Sanctuary's restoration work to the rhythms of growing — seed to soil, season to season.
Propagation Nursery
Growing native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers from local seed stock for restoration plantings across the Sanctuary.
Medicinal Herb Garden
Cultivating traditional and contemporary medicinal herbs — lavender, echinacea, chamomile, calendula, and more.
Winter Growing
Extending the growing season through the Alberta winter, keeping the connection to living plants year-round.
Botanical Education
Workshops in plant identification, seed saving, herbal preparation, and the ecology of plant communities.

From Land to Table
A teaching kitchen where participants learn how to harvest, prepare, and preserve foods and herbs grown on the land. The Harvest Kitchen reconnects people with the ancient practice of feeding ourselves from the landscape we care for.
Wild Food Preparation
Learning to identify, harvest, and prepare wild edibles from the Sanctuary landscape — connecting food to place.
Herbal Medicine Workshops
Creating tinctures, salves, teas, and infusions from herbs grown in the greenhouse and gathered from the land.
Seasonal Harvest Gatherings
Community events celebrating the harvest — bringing people together around food, gratitude, and the rhythms of the land.
Preservation & Fermentation
Traditional food preservation techniques — canning, drying, fermenting — skills that honour the seasons and reduce waste.
“The land does not ask for perfection. It asks for presence, patience, and a willingness to begin.”
Where Knowledge Takes Root
An open, flexible space for ecological learning, restoration training, and community events. The Gathering Hall is designed with warm timber, natural light, and a connection to the surrounding landscape — a space where ideas are shared, skills are learned, and community is built.
Possible Uses
A Space That Breathes
The Gathering Hall is not a conventional conference room. It is a space that honours the work being done on the land — timber framing from sustainably harvested wood, large windows that frame the Wildlife Spine, and a fireplace hearth that draws people together in every season.
Whether hosting a permaculture workshop for twenty or a community celebration for two hundred, the hall adapts to the moment — open, flexible, and grounded in the same materials as the landscape it serves.
Built from the land. Serving the land. Gathering people to care for the land.
The Quiet Healing Spaces
Small dedicated rooms for restorative practices — designed with natural materials, soft light, and intentional simplicity. These are spaces where the outside world quiets and inner restoration can begin.
Sound Therapy
Singing bowls, tuning forks, and nature soundscapes that calm the nervous system and restore inner quiet.
Meditation
Guided and silent meditation in spaces designed for stillness — surrounded by natural materials and soft natural light.
Breathwork
Facilitated breathing practices that support stress release, emotional regulation, and a deeper sense of presence.
Contemplative Practice
Journaling, walking meditation, and reflective time in nature — practices that reconnect people with their inner landscape.

A Sanctuary Within the Sanctuary
At the heart of the Lodge, a peaceful indoor garden where visitors can sit quietly surrounded by plants and natural light. The Zen Garden Atrium is not a destination — it is a pause. A place to slow down, breathe, and remember why this work matters.
Water moves gently through stone. Light filters through canopy. The air is alive with the scent of green, growing things. This space exists to create calm — a counterpoint to the busy world beyond the Sanctuary's edges.
"The purpose of the Zen Garden is not to teach. It is to remind — that stillness is not emptiness, and that the deepest restoration begins within."
The Lodge as the Sanctuary Heart
The Sanctuary Lodge will become the central hub from which restoration, education, and community connection radiate outward across the landscape. From the Greenhouse where new life begins, through the Harvest Kitchen where the land feeds its people, to the Gathering Hall where knowledge is shared, and into the Quiet Spaces where the human spirit is restored — every room, every corridor, every threshold tells the same story.
The Sanctuary Lodge will embody the core vision of the Regenerative Stewardship Sanctuary™ — a place where land, wildlife, and community regenerate together.
Be Part of the Vision
The Sanctuary Lodge is a long-term vision that will grow alongside the landscape it serves. If you share the belief that ecological restoration and human wellbeing belong together, we invite you to explore how you can contribute.
